MONKEY FITNESS PROGRAM OVERVIEW

(Ages 18 Months - Kindergarten)

All of our monkey fitness classes, with the exception of monkey and parent, are 50 minutes.  (Monkey and parent is a forty-minute long class.) Monkey classes begin with circle time where the little gymnast will dance to a song or play a game.  After getting warm, we will do some stretching (always in a fun way, ie. make cookies, itsy bitsy spider...)!  After circle time, we move to other events, which include: an obstacle course, beam, bars, tramp, and vault. The events are set up so the kids can keep moving.  On the obstacle course, they will learn cartwheels, forward rolls, backward rolls, and much more.  On the beams, we set felt up for them to jump over or dip step over.  Sometimes they carry beanbags on their heads and go on the high beam with the coach helping.  The bars are always a favorite.  This is where they get to learn pullovers, swing like a monkey, bell swings, and of course swing on the rope, and so much more.  The most fun area would be our thirty-foot long tramp.  All kids learn tight body jumps: a tuck jump, straddle jumps, seat drops, and the kindergarten class will learn the run jump.

MONKEY & PARENT

This class is for mom or dad and the lil' ones.  It is designed to build a tighter and stronger bond between mom or dad and the younger ones, while improving and enhancing all motor skills.  In this class, they will learn forward and backward rolls and they will get to climb and jump on all our bright colored mats.

MONKEY 3

This class is especially designed for those three year olds full of energy.  Monkey 3 combines just the right amount of beginning tumbling, balance, and coordination for those little ones who just cannot sit still.  They will have fun while learning at the same time.

MONKEY 4 & 5

This class is for the little gymnast, not in kidergarten (4&5), that wants to get that cartwheel and more fun gymnastics skills.  This class is both boys and girls.  They will learn headstands, forward rolls and backward rolls. You will see them getting stronger.  When we move to the bars, you will see your child swing in different shapes; "L" swings, bell swings, turtle swings and monkey swings.  Your little one will have fun while learning walks and jumps on beam.  We do this in a creative way, over felt flowers or carrying a beanbag.  We never forget the tramp...the kids love to learn jumps, seat drops and seat drop table drops.

KINDER MONKEY

This class is all Kindergarten age children.  Your child will continue learning the forward and backward rolls, cartwheels and handstands, but now we will work a little more on the form (feet together and arms straight).  Your little ones are turning into gymnasts and still loving it.  On bars you will see them doing pullovers and getting stronger.  On tramp, they will learn the safe way to do a roll.  Come try the class!

RECREATIONAL CLASSES OVERVIEW

(Ages 1st Grade - High School)

Along with our Monkey Fitness Classes, we offer classes for gymnasts of ALL levels, 1st grade - High School.  Our program offers classes of different levels to allow gymnasts to move up levels as their skills improve.  The main focus of our program is learning gymnastics in a fun, encouraging environment.  We offer the following classes for our "non-monkey," older gymnasts.

JUMPERS

This is a beginner class for elementary school aged girls from 1st - 5th grade.  Just as with all classes, this begins with teaching each gymnast proper stretching.  On the floor, the gymnasts are instructed on how to do cartwheels, handstands, and a bridge kick over. You will see your child advancing to the high beam, or continuing on the low beam if more comfortable, working dip kicks, high kicks, pivot turns, stretch jumps, and scales.  You might even see them work the cartwheel on low beam; of course, the coach will be spotting.  The tramp is the place to learn tuck, straddle, and pike jumps, as well as seat drops, table drops, and forward rolls.  They will learn the run hurdle jump (this is the start of the front flip) in the next level they will learn the flip.

SUPER JUMPERS

Enrollment in this class is by Coach Approval Only.  To be in this class, a gymnast must be able to do a bridge kick over on the floor; pullovers on bars and have all the basics of gymnastics mastered.  We do not want to put someone in the class if they are not ready.  We do not see the need to push kids too hard and have them scared!  They will become skilled at back handsprings, and round-offs on floor.  On bars, they will begin drills for kips, learn the squat on, and back hip circle.  On beam, you will see your gymnast learning new skills, such as the cartwheel on higher beams!  They learn toe turn 1/2's, tuck jumps, and jump combinations.  Tramp...they will learn a front flip in this class!!!  They will continue to work on jumps with form.

FRONTS

This is the third level of our recreational program.  Before entering this class, the gymnast should have already learned the basics on all events, and are moving to bigger tricks: the round-off back handspring, the kip, back walkovers on beam and front handsprings on vault.  Your daughter definitely loves gymnastics at this point.

TUMBLING CLASS

If you have a daughter wanting to learn how to tumble, this is the class.  Maybe they are a cheerleader or a dancer that needs floor skills. This class will help them get stronger and get some tumbling skills.
